My dad had recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and a problem with his pancreas that he had to get surgery for. The doctor gave the prescription of some pills and usual stuff like insulin. My dad had been going down a couple rabbit holes for awhile now like an right wing maga one which also led him to an alternative medicine one ever since covid happened. He became antivax and wanting me to buy him these brainboost medicines from these sites and i had always managed to weasal my way out of it every time since i don't want him spending money on that stuff. He also got into breathing techniques, ingesting concoction of certain fruits and veggies (on the surface is great) and the usual culprit of apple cider vinegar. So after awhile of his diabetes diagnosis, i came home to find out he threw out his medications. Apparently he saw some ads on Facebook which he showed me of ai voices of elon musk, joe rogan, and others saying that one of his medications, Metformin, saying those were really bad for him. I'm not a doctor or know anything about his medications but i was pretty unhappy with him and tried to explain that getting rid of his prescriptions was a really bad thing to do. He just argued that it's just "Big Pharma" trying to get money out of people. I get it the pharmaceutical industry and health industry as a whole is pretty fucking evil but he thinks it's evil the completely wrong way. While he did stop with his medications, he was still convinced enough to at least take the insulin shots. Anyway fastforward a few months later we had been doing this for awhile, when he tested his blood sugar and it was regular he'd always talk about how it was his special drinks that was helping... and Y'know instead not the insulin. I was always annoyed with these comments, but hey i tried to throw in that the insulin does play a factor too. Recently he said once the insulin was gone he wanted to "deal with it naturally". I was mentally dumbfounded by this but also couldn't argue with him. I feel so done with all of it, and yeah the simple answer is you can't change him and to let him be him... but the bleeding heart part of me feels so bad for thinking that. He may be stupid, but he's my dad I'd feel wrong for doing that. He's too stubborn that evil medical professionals can't get through to him, he's so convinced that his methods will heal him and not modern medicine. I'm so exhausted by this but i want to help but i fear the answer really is leave him to his own devices. So AITA for not wanting to deal with it anymore via /r/AITAH https://ift.tt/5GMoYLQ
